Referral website, not the contractor. How it works
Vinyl fence in Lubbock costs about $15 to $40 per foot installed nationally (HomeAdvisor), and hail, cold snaps and wind are its local tests.

Vinyl (PVC) fencing is approved in both Lubbock's and Wolfforth's city codes for residential fences. It never needs staining and won't rot. The questions people ask about it here are about weather: does it crack in hail, get brittle in a freeze, or lean in the wind?

Lubbock weather, one test at a time
Hail. The National Weather Service reported baseball-size hail in parts of south-central Lubbock on May 20, 2020, and noted that most objects exposed to the giant hail took some damage. A vinyl panel hit that hard can crack or punch through. Smaller hail is a different story, but replacement panels are worth planning for.
Cold. Lubbock's all-time record low is -17°F (February 8, 1933, NWS). Fixr warns that vinyl can become brittle in very cold weather and that impacts during a freeze can crack it. A ball, a mower or a blown trash can hitting the fence on a frozen morning is the realistic risk.
Heat and sun. The record high is 114°F (June 27, 1994, NWS). Fixr says vinyl can warp in high heat, and that some brands add UV inhibitors against fading and stabilizers for extreme temperatures, at about $1 to $3 more per foot. Ask which additives a panel has before you compare prices.
Wind. Lubbock averages 12.4 mph, the third-highest of U.S. cities its size in The Weather Channel's ranking (as reported by KFYO). A vinyl privacy fence is a solid face, so the posts matter most. Fixr's wind guidance:
- posts 3.5 to 5 inches square with a wall at least 0.160 inch thick, or 5-inch posts for larger privacy fences;
- posts 1.5 to 2 feet into the ground, set in concrete;
- post inserts of steel, aluminum or wood, at about $40 to $95 each, to stiffen hollow posts.
HomeGuide adds that builders recommend aluminum posts to keep vinyl privacy panels from blowing over. Fixr says a properly installed PVC fence can withstand winds up to 100 mph; that claim depends on the installation, so ask the company what it uses.
Styles and national prices
HomeAdvisor and HomeGuide both price vinyl by style. Their ranges don't match, so compare written quotes for the same height and panel.
| Style | Typical height | HomeAdvisor, per ft installed | HomeGuide, per ft installed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Privacy | 6 ft | $25 to $60 | $40 to $60 (to $85 at 8 ft) |
| Shadowbox | 4 to 6 ft | Not listed | $40 to $65 |
| Picket | 3 to 4 ft | $14 to $20 | $30 to $45 |
| Three-rail (ranch or horse) | 3 to 5 ft | $15 to $25 | $15 to $30 |
Color. HomeAdvisor says white is usually the least expensive, with some dark shades costing almost twice as much. Fixr lists black vinyl at about $55 to $65 per foot installed, the priciest color option.
Project totals. HomeAdvisor puts a typical vinyl fence at $2,340 to $5,999, about $4,162 on average. Fixr's average is about $5,800 for 209 feet of white vinyl privacy fence around a quarter-acre yard. Gates add $300 to $1,500 each (HomeAdvisor). Removing an old fence runs $3 to $5 per foot in HomeAdvisor's figures and $10 to $20 per foot with disposal in HomeGuide's. All prices were checked in October 2026. The Lubbock fence cost guide compares vinyl with wood, chain link, iron and pipe.
Vinyl or another material?
- Against wood: vinyl costs more at the start and skips staining. A wood fence on steel posts costs less and is easier to patch one board at a time.
- Against metal panels: a corrugated metal fence is also solid and low-upkeep, and HomeGuide describes it as standing up to hail without cracking, though thin panels can dent.
- For privacy in general: the privacy fence comparison lines up all the solid options, with Lubbock and Wolfforth height limits.
If a storm damages it
The Texas Department of Insurance says that when your policy includes wind coverage, fence damage is usually paid at actual cash value, meaning depreciation is subtracted, and you still pay your deductible. Fences fall under "other structures," which most policies cover at about 10% of the house's insured value. Photograph cracked panels before anything is moved. For broken posts and fallen runs, see fence repair.
Questions for the installer
- What wall thickness are the panels and posts, and do they have UV inhibitors or impact modifiers?
- What goes inside the posts, and how deep is the concrete?
- If hail cracks a panel in five years, can I still buy a matching one?
- How does the fence handle a slope or a corner lot?
- Is old fence removal and haul-off included?
Before you order, get any HOA approval in writing and check your city's height limits in the fence rules comparison. More answers are on the Lubbock fence company home page.
Common questions
Is a vinyl fence cheaper than wood?
No. HomeAdvisor says vinyl costs more than wood up front and makes up for it with lower upkeep and a longer life. HomeGuide's 6-foot privacy prices show the gap: about $40 to $60 per foot for vinyl against $25 to $50 for wood (national, checked October 2026).
How long does a vinyl fence last?
The guides disagree. HomeAdvisor gives 10 to 30 years, HomeGuide 20 to 30 years (40 or more if well kept), and Fixr 10 to 20 years when installed properly. Panel quality, installation and weather explain the spread.
Can a hail-cracked vinyl fence be repaired?
Usually by replacing the damaged panels or pickets rather than the whole fence. HomeAdvisor puts vinyl repairs at about $30 per linear foot. Ask whether your style and color are still made before you pick a brand, and photograph storm damage before cleanup if you plan to file a claim.
Will a vinyl privacy fence blow over in Lubbock wind?
It depends on the posts. Fixr says properly installed PVC fencing can withstand winds up to 100 mph, and ties that to post size, wall thickness and concrete footings 1.5 to 2 feet deep. Ask what reinforcement goes inside the posts.
